Keeping Pace with Jesus
From Series: "Empowering for the Extraordinary P"
Journey with us through the values of Mosaic.
A message from the series "Empowering for the Extraordinary P." After rebuking the ‘unrepentant cities’ Jesus enters into a public prayer of thanks to God for hiding the kingdom from the ‘wise’ and ‘intelligent’ and revealing it to ‘infants’. This kingdom is recognised not by the powerful and religious, but by the humble and even irreligious people of the nations. God calls and is revealed to those ‘weary’ of religion and tired of carrying the burdens and regulations religion so often demands. If God is like this, we are called to do the same. The image of the yoke taps into the plowing practice of the time that linked an older, more experienced oxen to a young and inexperienced oxen with the express purpose of slowing down the younger beasts in order that they would learn the patient pace that enabled a full day’s work to be done. In the same way, we at Mosaic desire to be a community of people who learn the pace of Jesus and his ‘gentle’, ‘humble’ and ‘easy’ mission of living in - and inviting people into - his ‘rest’. What does it look like for us to be a community who embrace Jesus’ slow yoke? Matt 11:25-30
